BLOK

Research project

The BLOK study aims to treat sleep disorders in older patients with mood disorders. It is conducted at the department of elderly psychiatry at GGZ inGeest.

Sleep disorders are highly prevalent among older patients with mood disorders, with observed rates of 60%. These patients are treated with benzodiazepines with severe side effects, such as sedation, injuries and cognitive impairment. Furthermore, severity of sleep disorders is associated with severity of psychiatric disorders and high relapse rates. Effective treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBTi) is available for adults with co-morbid sleep disorder.

BLOK is a pilot study to evaluate feasibility and efficacy of CBTi in 40 older patients with mood disorders and co-morbid sleep disorders.
