New funding for research on sustainable use of psychotropic medications

Psychiatrist and researcher Jurjen Luykx has received funding from the Dutch ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport for his project ‘Sustainable use of psychotropic medications’, in collaboration with amongst others, KNMP, pharmacists, doctors and patients.

Through this funding we can conduct the first research project in the Netherlands focused on the sustainable use and prescription of psychotropic medications. In the coming years, we will work with a team of doctors, pharmacists, toxicologists, environmental specialists, and researchers to explore how we can prescribe and have patients use psychotropic drugs in the most environmentally friendly way possible. Thus, we hope to contribute to greener approaches in clinical psychiatry. We are very grateful to the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) for this opportunity.

At the moment, Luykx is looking for two (physician/pharmacy) researchers who would enjoy dedicating time to this project in the coming years (including six months to a year within their training as a psychiatrist, pharmacist, general practitioner, or other specialty). If you are interested or know someone who might be, please send an email to:  j.j.luykx@amsterdamumc.nl.
