The Freqmech study (Frequency and Mechanisms of psychotherapy for depression) investigates whether the frequency in number of treatment sessions within either CBT (Cognitive behavioural therapy) or IPT (interpersonal psychotherapy) makes a difference in effect/outcome for patients with depressive disorder. This research project is a collaboration between the Vrije Universiteit and several mental health care institutions (GGZ inGeest, PsyQ, Altrecht, GGZ Oss, Pro Persona en Riagg Maastricht).

Participants were randomly divided into four different groups: CBT once a week, CBT twice a week, IPT once a week or IPT twice a week. Each treatment lasted for about six months.
