SPIRIT is a group therapy for people with a bipolar disorder or with reoccurring depressive complaints in the age of 20 to 80 years. During the 10 week program, participants meet two times a week. The sessions are a combination of interpersonal psychotherapy and social rhythm therapy. Within the department of old age psychiatry of GGZ inGeest, the effect of this group therapy, and the evaluation of patients of this therapy, was studied.
The focus in the group therapy sessions is to recognise signals when the person is feeling worse, how they are sleeping, what their daily activity looks like etc. Next to this, it is discussed how one can handle situations which might interrupt daily activities better .
