Dr. Mr. Merijn Eikelenboom, PhD, LL.M

Merijn Eikelenboom has studied Dutch Law at the University of Amsterdam. Since 2003 he has been working at Research and innovation, Department of Psychiatry VUMC & GGZ inGeest in various functions. Currently he is the operational head Research at the department of Psychiatry Amsterdam UMC, location VUmc. Moreover he is projectmanager of some large psychiatric cohort studies, e.g. The Netherlands Study of Depression and Anxiety (NESDA) and The Netherlands Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Association (NOCDA) study. His key interest are suicide research and suicide prevention. He finished his PhD thesis in 2023 on suicidal behavior in depression and anxiety examining risk factors and its methodological challenges. He is a member of the management team of the Sure-NL consortium (Suicide Research Netherlands) and in the Spring of 2023, he started working part-time at 113 Zelfmoordpreventie, contributing to research activities of the newly formed platform ‘Samen Leren, Minder Suicide’.
