Silvia Klokgieters, PhD
Silvia is postdoctoral researcher at the department of psychiatry at Amsterdam UMC/VUmc. She studied health sciences (Bsc.) and Medical Anthropology (Msc.). Her PhD project was titled “Ageing in a migration context: resilience in Turkish and Moroccan immigrants” and focused on why some immigrant age well despite migration related adversity while others do not. Afterwards, she did postdoctoral work on cohort differences in socioeconomic inequalities in health. Specifically, she studied whether the importance of mechanisms that explain socioeconomic inequalities changed across birth cohorts. Currently, she is involved in a mixed method research project focused on the sustainability of resilience from depression during the COVID-19 crisis using data from the Netherlands Study of Depression and Anxiety (NESDA), Netherlands Study of Depression in Older Persons (NESDO), and Netherlands Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Association Study (NOCDA) and qualitative interviews with older adults who participated in NESDO.
