ZonMw funds DORES study for research on suicidality and resuscitation

Psychiatrist and researcher Sisco van Veen has received funding from ZonMw for his DORES project, in collaboration with UMC Utrecht and 113 Suicideprevention services.

It seems that more and more people who are struggling with suicidality are making non-resuscitation (NR) declarations. With the DORES study, we want to improve care for this group. We will do this by learning who these people are, why they refrain from resuscitation, whether they are willful toward the NR statement, and how their preferences evolve over time. In addition, we want to learn from the views and experiences of their family members and the medical professionals who care for them. To do this, we are using a combination of quantitative and qualitative empirical-ethical research methods. This research will start in May 2025 and will be conducted by Amsterdam UMC, in collaboration with researchers from UMC Utrecht and 113 Suicide Prevention.
