Last month we have sadly lost two of our most eminent and beloved colleagues.
Jan Mokkenstorm (1962) passed away on July 8. He was a psychiatrist and founder of the 113-online organization for the prevention of suicide in the Netherlands. Throughout his career he has worked as a gifted clinician, researcher and advocate for our patients and for our field. He was diagnosed with an incurable cancer a year ago, was very open about his illness and carried on working until very shortly before his death. In 2018 he was decorated in the ‘Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw’ for his work on suicide prevention. Above all, he was a dear friend and colleague to many of us.

Jeroen Ruwaard (1970) passed away very unexpectedly on July 16. Jeroen was one of our most talented senior researchers, working in e-mental health, big data and translating data to clinical reality. He was affiliated both with GGZinGeest as our co-head data infrastructure and Amsterdam UMC. His natural charm, enthousiasm and modest way of infusing both science and clinical practice with new ideas is irreplaceable. His sudden death is a great shock to all of us.
