Prof. dr. (em.) Ton van Balkom, MD, PhD

Anton J.L.M. van Balkom is psychiatrist and professor (em.) in evidence-based psychiatry.

Ton van Balkom has previously been member of the Management Team of the department of psychiatry (portfolio Education) and director of the education program for residence in psychiatry for psychiatrists at GGZ inGeest (hoofdopleider) . He has chaired the academic workplace Anxiety Disorders. His research interests are: evidence-based psychiatry; diagnosis and treatment of anxiety disorders; comorbidity; guideline development and implementation; Stepped Care.

Ton van Balkom is chair of the revision committee of the Netherlands multi-disciplinary guidelines for anxiety disorders (including OCD), chair of the Netherlands OCD Association, a recently founded network for research in OCD and vice-chair of the Netherlands Knowledge Center for Anxiety and Depression (NedKAD). He is also member of the scientific board of the OCD patients organization in the Netherlands.
