Dirk Smit is a neurophysiologist and geneticist who has been involved in a wide range of studies on psychiatric genetics and electrophysiological markers of psychiatric disorders. He is particularly interested the combination of both. While we are increasingly identifying the underlying genetics of psychiatric disorders and increasingly know how brain activity patterns are related to these disorders, we do not know how specific genetic variants influence the brain’s activity.
He is involved in several large-scale international cohorts in the field of psychiatric genetics: the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium and ENIGMA-EEG.
