PhD

I am Assistant Professor at the department of psychiatry in the psychotrauma group. I am currently member of the medical ethical review board of Amsterdam UMC and member of the senior council of APH global health. Moreover, I am active member of the Global Collaboration on Traumatic stress, leading a project on mental health support for intimate partner violence and co-leading a project on understanding cultural variations in, and the impact of socio- and ethno-cultural factors on, the manifestation of trauma and associated traumatic responses. I have been board member of the Dutch traumatic stress society between 2021-2025.

I aim to improve PTSD treatment outcomes through three research foci: 1) improving access to PTSD treatment by understanding the prevalence of PTSD, identifying treatment barriers and designing innovative interventions to overcome these barriers; 2) increasing understanding of how and for whom treatment works by employing advanced analytical approaches and 3) improving effectiveness of (early) PTSD treatment through enhancing mechanisms of change, personalizing treatments and targeted (early) interventions to prevent long-term PTSD
