Researchers involved

This research aims to provide policymakers with insights that enhance prevention, care, and support for adults with moderate and severe gambling problems. The findings will help improve gambling policies by aligning them with the specific risks and needs of this vulnerable group.
We will conduct one-on-one interviews with:
• Young adults (18-34) with moderate (n=10-15) or severe (n=10-15) gambling problems
• Adults (35+) with severe gambling problems (n=10-15)
• Parents/partners (n=5-10)
• Care providers (n=5-8)

To learn from their experiences concerning the following topics:
Access to Care and Support
Experiences with Gambling Provider Interventions:
Gambling providers must detect and intervene in problematic behavior, but players experience these interventions differently (Blom et al., 2024). This study explores how individuals with gambling problems perceive these measures.
Suicide and Suicidal Thoughts:
There is a documented link between gambling problems and suicide (Marionneau & Nikkinen, 2022). Interviews will help us better understand this relationship and gather insights from care providers.
(After)care During and After CRUKS Registration:
The Central Register for Gambling Exclusion (CRUKS) allows self-exclusion from legal gambling but lacks monitoring or aftercare, ensuring privacy but complicating support (Blom et al., 2024). This study explores players’ views on giving up anonymity for additional care.
Legal vs. Illegal Gambling Providers:
Protective policies can push players toward illegal gambling if perceived as restrictive. Understanding the motivations behind these choices will help refine regulations.
