Aysu Okbay is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Amsterdam UMC and a co-director of the Social Science Genetic Association Consortium (SSGAC). She earned her doctoral degree in 2017 from Erasmus University Rotterdam, where her research focused on the genetic architecture of economic preferences and outcomes. After completing her PhD, she spent a year as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Complex Trait Genetics at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. In 2018, she joined the Department of Economics at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam as an Assistant Professor, where she was granted tenure in 2020 and remained until 2024.
Dr. Okbay’s research centers on the genetics of social and behavioural outcomes, with a particular emphasis on educational attainment and the interplay between genetic and environmental factors. She also serves as Chair of the Polygenic Index Working Group at SSGAC and leads the development of the Polygenic Index Repository.
