Center for Psychological Trauma

Our research group focuses on psychotrauma. This includes research into assessment and screening of transdiagnostic responses to traumatic events, as well as studies on (targeted) prevention and (early) treatment of adverse consequences, one of them being posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

We use different research methods (from epidemiological to RCTs), develop new instruments and innovative interventions based on the state-of-the-art technology and international expertise and we increase understanding of how, where and for whom treatment works by employing advanced analytical approaches.

Target groups include those who have been recently traumatized, e.g., after traffic accidents or violence, specific groups such as survivors of intimate partner violence who experience difficulties in accessing regular care due to safety issues, or live in areas in the world where consequences of trauma may be expressed differently and require other culturally appropriate (scalable) interventions.

We do this in the Netherlands, but also within a large global network around the world (Global Collaboration on Traumatic Stress).

In our center we adhere to Open Science principles, share what we develop also outside academic channels, welcome collaboration and learn from each other. We work closely with ARQ National Psychotrauma Center for clinical studies, and with other national and international partners.
