Margot van de Weijer is an assistant professor specialised in behaviour/molecular genetics.
Her PhD (obtained at the dept. of biological psychology at VU amsterdam) focused on gene-environment interplay for wellbeing. After obtaining her PhD, she joined the genetic epidemiology research group at the department of psychiatry at Amsterdam UMC. Her work at the psychiatry department is focused on two themes: 1) comorbidity and causality between substance use behaviours and psychiatric disease (PI J. Treur), and 2) a novel research line on the genetics of sex hormones and sex hormone-related mood disorders.
In addition, she is active in several outreach committees and projects. One of her main outreach projects is ‘DNA cinema’, where high school students learn about genetics in relation to society through the organisation of film festivals on this topic.
