This transdisciplinary project, in collaboration with RIVM, pharmacists, and the Center for Sustainable Healthcare, promotes the sustainable use of psychotropic medications to reduce environmental harm. With the increasing use of these drugs and their impact on aquatic ecosystems, the project addresses critical knowledge gaps related to improper disposal, prescribing practices, and environmental risks. Through systematic studies, it assesses the awareness of prescribers, pharmacists, and patients regarding sustainability, evaluates the environmental damage caused by specific psychotropic drugs, and tests the effectiveness of simple educational interventions.
Collaboration with key stakeholders ensures practical insights and innovative solutions, contributing to more sustainable prescribing, use, and disposal of psychotropic medications while reducing ecological harm.
