Neuropsychiatry

Team Neuropsychiatry studies 1) the neural mechanism underlying vulnerability to develop neuropsychiatric disorders (with neurodevelopmental disorders such as obsessive-compulsive and related disorders at the one extreme and neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s disease at the other extreme, but also trauma- and sleep related disorders), 2) the biosignatures of symptom profiles at the various stages of disease, and 3) the targets and mechanisms of action of innovative treatments (with focus on innovative forms of psychotherapy, physical training and non-invasive neuromodulation). Team Neuropsychiatry functions at the intersection of various departments (primarily in the triangle Psychiatry, Anatomy & Neuroscience, and Neurology) and uses various multi-modal brain imaging methods. The TMS-EEG labs of Team Neuropsychiatry are available for trials and experimental studies in collaboration with other researchers in the institute. At the global level, both ENIGMA-OCD and ENIGMA-Parkinson are led by members of Team Neuropsychiatry.
