LifeCYCLE

LifeCYCLE is a research group embedded within the Department of Psychiatry and Medical Psychology at OLVG, Amsterdam. Their work focuses on understanding mood and mental health across the female life course, from the first menstrual cycle to a potential pregnancy, the menopausal transition, and later life. They adopt a life-course and biopsychosocial perspective, integrating biological, psychological, and social determinants of mental health. Central to their approach is the recognition that hormonal transitions interact with psychosocial contexts, individual characteristics, and broader life events. Their research combines clinical studies, longitudinal cohort data, questionnaires, qualitative interviews, focus groups, and advanced data-analytic methods. By bridging clinical practice and scientific research, they aim to improve insight into why some women experience more mental health complaints than others during hormonal transitions. LifeCYCLE collaborates closely with clinicians, researchers across disciplines, and individuals with lived experience. Their ultimate goal is to contribute to improved identification, prevention, and personalized care for women experiencing mental health challenges across the reproductive life span.
